Hugh | Executive Trainer
With more than 20 years of experience in professional dog training and behavior, Hugh brings a rare combination of scientific expertise, practical experience, and a deep understanding of the human–canine relationship.
Professionally a scientist in the pharmaceutical industry and a CPDT-KA and PCT-A certified professional, Hugh has worked with dogs across a remarkable range—from military, service, and therapy dogs to puppies, adult dogs, and some of the most challenging large and powerful dogs in rescue. He has been trusted by shelters, humane societies, and rescue organizations to help dogs others considered difficult or unmanageable find a path forward. Through his efforts, dogs deemed unadoptable and bound for BE were given a second chance to find their furever home.
His training philosophy combines evidence-based behavioral science with an island-style approach centered on calm leadership, clear communication, strong connection, and mutual respect.
He is particularly passionate about raising and preparing puppies for service and therapy organizations, building the confidence, socialization, and foundational skills that support success throughout their lives.
Rooted in his Pacific Island heritage, Hugh returned to Hawaiʻi to share his passion for dogs with the community he calls home. Alongside his wife, they founded a giant-breed dog rescue, named after their children, dedicated to giving vulnerable dogs a second chance.
